I'M SO GLAD BOURBON DRINKERS DON'T KNOW HOW AWESOME THIS IS...ALL THE MORE FOR ME.
Pure spring water, malted barley and yeast is all that goes into Glenfarclas.
The distinctive, some say unforgettable, taste of Glenfarclas Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the result of 150 years of family experience. Insistence on using traditional distillation methods gives their spirits that time-honouRed quality.
Since 1865 Glenfarclas has been owned and managed by just one family, the Grants of Glenfarclas.
On the 8th of June 1865 John Grant acquiRed the tenancy for the Rechlerich Farm and as part of the transaction purchased the Glenfarclas Distillery for £511.19. To this day Glenfarclas is one of only a few distilleries in Scotland to remain family owned and managed. Now in the hands of the fifth and sixth generation of the family, the Grants remain committed to the vision of creating the best quality Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, in the traditional Speyside style.
John Grant was a well-known cattle breeder. The land was an ideal halfway staging post between his existing farm in Glenlivet, and the cattle market in nearby Elgin. Since farming was John's priority, he let the distillery to John Smith, who later established Cragganmore distillery. However, during this time, the cattle drovers and workmen certainly enjoyed the sustenance of a dram of Glenfarclas! In 1830 John Grant had a son, George, who was later to take over the farm and distillery in 1889. Sadly, George passed away not long afterwards. Subsequently, the license for the distillery was passed on to George's widow Elsie. She then appointed her two eldest children, John and George, to take care of the business.
